Protecting Our Water Supply
What if the water source we all rely on wasn’t enough?
From our morning coffee to our evening bath, our daily supply of water originates from the underground reservoir known as the Floridan aquifer. One of the nation's most important natural resources, aquifers like this are a vital water source.
Yet, freshwater in the aquifer is a finite resource.
Population growth and community expansion and development are placing increased demand on this precious resource. If we don’t protect and properly manage the aquifer, it could be depleted at a faster rate than nature can replenish it.
The Need
Over the past decade, JEA’s conservation efforts and reclaimed water program have reduced customer demands by about 25%. That results in more than 9 billion gallons of water savings each year. While conservation helps, and JEA is implementing measures to further conserve water, conservation alone is not enough. To meet the needs of our growing community, an additional water source is needed beyond what the aquifer can provide.
That’s where JEA comes in.
As an industry leader, JEA has long embraced the concept of One Water and the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management. Through meticulous planning and proactive measures, we are paving the way for a sustainable water future.

Just Nature, Accelerated
Our solution? We’re ensuring a sustainable future by purifying water our customers use through advanced multi-barrier technology before returning it to the aquifer. Simply put, we’re cleaning the water we use before replacing it.
This industry-leading solution accelerates aquifer replenishment, safeguards the health of the St. Johns River and maximizes available water resources.
Learn About Our SolutionWe are mimicking what nature does to replenish the aquifer, but we are doing it more efficiently, in a shorter amount of time, and with a smaller footprint.
